Roof access and work planning

A roof visit starts with safe access and a clear description of what can be inspected. Share the building address, access restrictions, roof height, known weak areas, and any operations that must stay open. Roof edges, skylights, electrical equipment, weather, and damaged decking can change the approach.

Before anyone enters the roof

The contractor performing the work should assess the hazards, establish appropriate fall protection, and confirm access and emergency arrangements. Building staff should identify restricted spaces, loading routes, tenants, and equipment that cannot be interrupted. A wet or damaged roof may require a different inspection method or a delay until access is safe.

Keep the work scope specific

For repairs or replacement, ask the contractor to describe how materials will be staged, debris contained, drains protected, and occupied areas kept separate from work. Weather protection and daily closeout should be part of that discussion.

Send the access details and roof concern so the first visit can be planned around the property.
